Description

The whole round bale, inside a slow-feed net, with no feeder to buy. The NAG Bag Round Bale Bag is a full bag the bale sits inside. Tip the bale, work the bag over it, stand it up, and the herd eats through the mesh instead of pulling flakes out and standing on them.

Who it is for

  • One to three horses with no tractor and no ring.
  • Small paddocks where a ring will not fit.
  • Anyone who wants slow feeding on a round bale without the $1,000 feeder.

Which mesh

1.5" for most horses, 2" for bigger horses or coarse hay, 2.75" for cattle and drafts. The NAG Bag net size guide and the mesh guide have the full tables.

Honest note

On the ground the bag still gets stood on and wet. If you have four or more head, or a loader, a poly ring with a Net Topper keeps the bale off the ground and lasts longer. We wrote up the whole comparison in Best Round Bale Feeders in Canada.

Hand-assembled knotless nylon-blend netting, made in Canada. Ships from Sherwood Park, Alberta.

NAG Bags Net Guide

Mesh size is the whole decision with a slow feed net. 1 in slows the most and suits minis, ponies and easy keepers; 1.5 in is the standard for most horses; 2 in for horses that just need the hay kept clean; 2.75 in for cattle, drafts and waste control. The table below matches size to horse and hay.

NAG Bag Net Size Guide

Net size Best for Hay type Notes
1" Minis, ponies, and horses that have mastered the 1.5" Most hay — not fine short blends Very restricting; a graduate size
1.5" Most horses, plus donkeys, mules, alpacas, llamas, goats, sheep, bunnies, chickens All blends Our most popular size
2" Working horses, hard keepers, young & elderly All blends Great introduction size and for colder months
2.75" Large breeds, elderly, cows All blends (not compressed) Feeder / tub use only
Sizing

Choosing the right mesh size

Choosing the right mesh size makes a real difference — too small and your horse gets frustrated, too large and you lose the slow-feeding benefit altogether. Match the net to your horse's size, temperament, and hay type for the best result.
