Description

Simply Straw does one thing and does it well — it gives you clean, honest wheat straw you can feel good putting down. Every bale goes through strict quality control before it leaves the barn. Baled dry at harvest and stored under cover in a dedicated straw barn, it arrives free from mold, bird droppings, excess dust, and debris. Not all straw bedding can say that, and it makes a real difference when you're the one spreading it and your animals are the ones sleeping in it.

Each compressed bale comes in at 2.8 cu ft — easy to stack, easy to carry, and practical for barns that don't have unlimited storage. Open it up and it expands to roughly 10 cu ft of coverage. It spreads evenly, creates a warm breathable layer, and forks out cleanly at muck-out, which is the kind of thing you only appreciate once you've dealt with bedding that doesn't. It's a natural choice for foaling stalls in the colder months, and equally at home in livestock pens and poultry coops where warmth and insulation matter.

Single bales are stocked at UFA Farm & Ranch Supply stores right across Alberta, so if you only need a few, pick them up on your next run into town — the link on this page takes you straight to the UFA listing. Bedding a whole barn is a different job, and that comes direct from us: pallets are pickup from our Olds plant, and anything headed further afield goes as a full truckload with a delivered price. If you're weighing straw against pine shavings and aren't sure which direction to go, give us a call — we're happy to talk through what works best for your setup.

How to Use

Cut or remove the bale wrap and open the bale in the stall or area you're bedding. The straw will expand as it loosens — give it a shake and spread it out evenly with a fork. For a solid base layer in a horse stall, most owners start with four to six inches of depth and top up as needed between full clean-outs.

For foaling stalls, a deeper, fluffier bed is worth the extra bale. Straw provides good cushion and warmth, and a well-bedded foaling stall makes a real difference for both mare and foal.

Muck out daily by removing soiled straw and adding fresh material to maintain depth. Full strip-outs will depend on your stall traffic and the number of animals, but clean straw stays fresher longer when you stay on top of the daily pick-through.

Size Guide

Simply Straw comes three ways, and which one suits you comes down to how many stalls you are bedding.

Bag — One compressed 2.8 cu ft bale, which opens up to roughly 10 cu ft. Enough for a standard stall's base layer or a top-up between cleanouts. Bales are stocked at UFA Farm & Ranch Supply stores across Alberta, so you can pick them up on your next run into town.

Pallet — The usual choice once you are bedding several stalls or want a proper supply on hand through winter. Pallets come direct from us and are pickup only from our Olds plant.

Truckload — 34 pallets inside Alberta, 28 anywhere else. This is the only way we deliver, and it is priced to your address. Boarding barns and breeding operations usually land here.

Most single-stall setups start with 2 to 4 bales for a proper base. Tell us how many stalls you are bedding and we will help you work out the rest.

WHAT MAKES IT WORTH IT

Why it's built different

We bed our own stalls with this. Here's what actually matters after a few hundred muck-outs — not marketing points, real ones.

Simply Clean Straw

A lot of straw bedding looks fine in the bale and tells a different story when you open it. Simply Straw goes through strict quality control — no mold, no bird droppings, no seeds, no debris. What you see is what you get.

Baled Right, Stored Right

This straw is baled dry at harvest and moved straight into a dedicated covered storage barn. That step matters more than most people realize. Moisture at any point in the process is how you end up with straw that smells off before it even hits the stall floor.

Compresses Small, Beds Big

Each bale is compressed to 2.8 cu ft so it's manageable to carry, easy to stack, and won't take over your tack room. Open it up and you've got roughly 10 cu ft of coverage ready to go.

Forks Out Clean

Good straw should work with you, not against you. Simply Straw spreads evenly and lifts cleanly at muck-out, which makes the daily routine faster and less frustrating than matted or debris-heavy bedding.

Works Across the Barn

Horse stalls, livestock pens, foaling boxes, poultry coops — this straw is a solid choice wherever you need warm, breathable, insulating bedding. One product that earns its place in more than one spot.

What folks are saying

★★★★★
Not one pound of feed wasted

These feeders are amazing! There is not one pound of feed wasted. We are no longer wasting 20 to 30 percent of a bale. One person can change out the bale. There is absolutely no downside to these feeders.

Best product yet

I absolutely love the bagged straw. No smell in the barn this morning. Only 15 minutes to muck out our 36-stall barn with only one tractor tow-behind cart versus two. Thank you for all your help.
