Description

If you've ever wished there was a hay net that sat right between "this thing is empty in an hour" and "this holds enough for a week," the Mid-Day Bag is it. Sized to hold four to six flakes comfortably, it gives horses, donkeys, and other grazing animals steady access to forage across a full day or overnight stretch — without you needing to be there to manage it. It's a simple idea that makes a real difference in how your animals eat, behave, and feel.

The Mid-Day Bag works equally well in a stall, a paddock, a boarding barn, or out at pasture. For owners managing busy schedules, it takes the pressure off constant refills and gives animals something meaningful to do in the meantime. Slow feeding supports healthier digestion, reduces the risk of ulcers and colic, and keeps horses calmer — which means less cribbing, less fence-chewing, and a quieter barn overall. If you have a horse with dust or inhalant sensitivities, keeping hay contained in the net instead of scattered on the ground can also make a noticeable difference in air quality around the manger.

Each Mid-Day Bag is hand assembled using a soft, knotless knitted nylon blend that holds up to daily use and is easy on your horse's muzzle. Choose from five net hole sizes to match your animal's needs and your hay type, and every bag ships with twine and a toggle so you can hang it right away. Not sure which size is right? We're happy to help — reach out by phone or chat any time.

How to Use

When introducing slow hay feeding for the first time, always put out some loose hay alongside the NAG Bag for the first week. This gives your animal a chance to learn how to graze from the net naturally, at their own pace, and reduces the chance of frustration or net damage early on.

  1. Fill the bag with 4 to 6 flakes of hay, depending on your feeding schedule.
  2. Draw the opening closed using the included twine and toggle.
  3. Hang the bag in the stall, paddock, or feeder at a low, natural foraging height when possible. Keep it out of pawing range for shod horses — place it in a feeder, tub, or hay ring if needed.
  4. Check the bag regularly to monitor consumption and confirm the net hole size is appropriate for your animal's intake.
  5. For paddock paradise setups, placing multiple bags around the feeding area encourages movement and more natural grazing behaviour.

WHAT MAKES IT WORTH IT

Why it's built different

We use these nets in our own barn. Here's what actually matters after five winters of pasture use — not marketing points, real ones.

The Right Size for Real Barn Life

Too small and you're out there refilling at midnight. Too big and hay goes everywhere. The Mid-Day Bag hits the sweet spot — four to six flakes in one fill means your horse has steady access to forage all day or overnight without you making extra trips to the barn.

Knotless Netting That's Gentle by Design

Hard knotted nets can be rough on a horse's lips and face, especially over hours of grazing. The soft knotless nylon blend used in the Mid-Day Bag is designed for extended contact — durable enough to last years, gentle enough that horses take to it quickly and willingly.

Slow Feeding the Way Nature Intended

A horse's digestive system is built for trickle feeding — small amounts, all the time. Dumping a pile of loose hay and walking away is the opposite of that. The Mid-Day Bag gives your horse a natural foraging rhythm that supports gut health, reduces acid exposure, and keeps them calmer and more content between visits.

Built to Actually Last

With a lifespan of three to five years under regular use, this is a net you buy once and count on. The knitted nylon blend holds up to daily loading, moisture, mud, and the kind of determined horses that test every piece of equipment you own. Any minor tears are also easy to repair without replacing the whole bag.

Five Net Sizes for Every Animal and Hay Type

One size doesn't fit all — not your horse, and not your hay. The Mid-Day Bag comes in 1", 1.5", 1.5" W, 2", and 2.75" hole sizes so you can dial in the right consumption speed for your specific animal and situation. Each bag also includes a strand of twine and toggle, so you're ready to hang it right out of the box.

Sizing

Choosing the right mesh size

Choosing the right mesh size makes a real difference — too small and your horse gets frustrated, too large and you lose the slow-feeding benefit altogether. Match the net to your horse's size, temperament, and hay type for the best result.
