Description

If you've ever dumped out a fresh square bale and watched half of it get trampled into the mud before your horses even finished eating, you already understand the problem. The Three-Tie Square Bale Bag holds one full three-tie bale — up to 120 lbs — and turns every feeding into a slow, steady grazing session instead of a free-for-all. Horses work the hay out through the netting at a pace that mirrors how they're built to eat, which means less waste and a lot less hay ending up underfoot.

The gut health benefits follow naturally from that. When horses graze consistently throughout the day instead of eating in rushed bursts, acid levels in the stomach stay buffered, cortisol drops, and behaviours like cribbing and fence-chewing tend to ease off. If you're dealing with a horse that cribs, stocks up, or has a history of ulcers or colic, consistent slow access to forage is one of the most effective changes you can make. This bag gives you that without adding a single step to your daily routine.

It's built from a high-quality knotless nylon blend, hand assembled, and rated for three to five years of regular use. Comes with a strand of twine and toggle so you're ready to hang it right away. Available in four mesh sizes — 1", 1.5", 2", and 2.75" — to match your horse's size, hay type, and feeding goals. Not sure which mesh is right for your setup? Reach us by chat or phone and we'll help you figure it out.

How to Use

When introducing any slow feed net for the first time, always offer loose hay alongside the bag for the first week. This gives your horse time to learn how to graze from the net without getting frustrated, and it helps preserve the netting during the adjustment period.

For horses with shoes, place the bag inside a tub, hay ring, or box feeder rather than leaving it loose on the ground. This keeps the net out of pawing range while still allowing a natural low feeding position.

For ground-level or pasture feeding with unshod horses, the bag can be used loose — this encourages natural foraging movement and works well in a paddock paradise setup with multiple feeding stations placed around the area.

Please note: the 1" mesh size on the Three-Tie Bale Bag features a hand-sewn seam rather than a machine-sewn seam.

WHAT MAKES IT WORTH IT

Why it's built different

We use these nets in our own barn. Here's what actually matters after five winters of pasture use — not marketing points, real ones.

Slow Feeding Built Into Every Meal

Horses are meant to trickle-feed, not bolt a flake and be done in twenty minutes. The Three-Tie Bale Bag keeps hay flowing at a steady, natural pace — which means better digestion, less gut stress, and horses that are settled rather than bored and anxious.

Knotless Netting That's Safe for Daily Use

Knotted nets create pressure points and rough edges that can catch hooves and cause injuries. The knotless design here stays soft and flexible through thousands of uses, so you get the slow-feed benefit without the safety trade-off.

Hand Assembled for Real Quality Control

Every bag is assembled by hand, not cranked out on a production line. That means the seams are right, the netting is even, and what shows up at your barn is actually built to last — not just built to sell.

Mesh Sizes for Every Horse and Every Hay

From tight 1" holes for easy-keeper minis to open 2.75" mesh for drafts, hard keepers, or cold-climate feeding, there's a mesh size dialled in for your situation. One size does not fit all when it comes to slow feeding.

Flexible Enough to Work Anywhere You Feed

Toss it loose in the pasture for natural ground-level grazing. Drop it in a tub or hay ring for shod horses. Hang it in the stall for travel or overnight shows. This bag works wherever your horses are.

Sizing

Choosing the right mesh size

Choosing the right mesh size makes a real difference — too small and your horse gets frustrated, too large and you lose the slow-feeding benefit altogether. Match the net to your horse's size, temperament, and hay type for the best result.
