Description

Regular rubber stall mats do one job: they cover the floor. But if you've ever tried to actually sanitize a stall — after a sick horse, before a foaling, or just as part of running a clean barn — you know the problem. Standard mats weigh close to a hundred pounds each, they never come up once they're down, and whatever soaks between them stays there.

SilverTec™ mats were designed around that exact problem, built for us by the top agricultural mat manufacturer in the world. Each 4'×6' mat is a therapeutic, non-permeable micro-cellular foam rubber composite — a full inch thick, with 5 mm of colloidal silver embedded in the top surface to control microbial growth and staining. They interlock on three sides so they don't shift, the underside is embossed for airflow, and here's the part your back will appreciate: they weigh 35 pounds. One person can lift a mat, disinfect under it, and put it back.

That combination — therapeutic cushion, silver-controlled surface, and liftable weight — is why you'll find these in veterinary clinics and teaching facilities, foaling barns, wash racks, and show setups, not just home stables. If biosecurity matters in your barn, this is the mat that takes it seriously.

How to Use
  1. Start with a clean, level, well-drained base — compacted stone dust or concrete both work.
  2. Lay the first mat square in a corner and work outward, locking each mat into the last on the interlocking sides.
  3. Trim edge mats with a sharp utility knife and a straightedge if your stall isn't an exact multiple of 4×6.
  4. For cleaning, sweep or hose the surface as part of normal mucking.
  5. For full sanitizing — between horses, before foaling, or after illness — lift mats individually, disinfect both sides and the floor beneath, and re-lay once dry.

Tip: Measure your stall before ordering — a standard 12×12 stall takes six mats with minimal trimming.

WHAT MAKES IT WORTH IT

Why it's built different

We've laid these floors in our own barn. Here's what actually matters after years of hooves, wheelbarrows, and wash-downs — not marketing points, real ones.

Silver in the Surface, Not a Coating

The 5 mm colloidal silver layer is embedded into the mat's top surface — it doesn't wash off, wear off, or need reapplying. Silver's natural antimicrobial action works around the clock to control the bacteria, staining, and odor that build up in stalls no matter how often you muck.

The Only Mat You Can Actually Sanitize Under

Standard stall mats weigh 90–100 lbs and effectively never come up again. At 35 lbs, a SilverTec mat lifts with one hand — which means genuine biosecurity between horses, before foaling, or after illness, instead of disinfecting the top and hoping.

Therapeutic Cushion for Legs That Work

The micro-cellular foam rubber composite compresses and rebounds under weight, easing pressure on joints and encouraging horses to lie down and rest. It's the same reason these mats show up in vet clinics and rehab facilities — comfort is part of recovery.

Non-Permeable, So Nothing Soaks In

Urine and wash water can't penetrate the mat body — what lands on the surface stays where you can clean it. Combined with the embossed underside that lets air move beneath, moisture doesn't get trapped into a smell you can't find.

Interlocked on Three Sides, Engineered to Stay Put

Shifting mats create gaps, trips, and grime traps. SilverTec mats lock together on three sides so the floor behaves like one surface — in stalls, alleys, wash racks, or a show setup you install for a weekend and bring home after.

What folks are saying

★★★★★

Best therapeutic stall mat

I have used other therapeutic stall mats in the past; these mats are so much easier to clean than the other therapeutic mats we used to have — and the horses really like the super soft comfort provided by the mats.

Best boarding facility mat

If you are considering replacing your mats, or putting mats in anywhere for the first time, seriously consider these SilverTec™ mats. We have been boarding horses for over 25 years, and every once in a while something comes along that reinvents the wheel. These mats are one of those things.

Superior investment

It's the best decision and investment we have made. The mats were easy to lay and cut to fit. We now use a fraction of the amount of shavings, spreading them mainly around the edges. We muck out twice daily and it is so easy and quick.
